Plot & Concept Summary
Set in late antiquity, general Titus Andronicus returns to Rome victorious after a grueling ten-year war against the Goths, bringing Queen Tamora and her sons as prisoners. Seeking honor for his fallen sons, Titus sacrifices Tamora’s eldest son. Fueled by grief and outrage, Tamora and her surviving sons vow absolute vengeance against Titus and his family.
When Tamora becomes the new Empress of Rome, an escalating series of atrocities ensues—including murder, betrayal, and unspeakable violence against Titus’s children. In response, Titus descends into a realm of vengeful madness, culminating in a grotesque final banquet where the boundary between justice and brutality disappears entirely.
