Continuing its successful third-year run with repeated sold-out shows, Franca Rame and Dario Fo’s play “ALL HOUSE, BED AND CHURCH”, directed by Emmanouil G. Mavros, travels to Patras at the Orofos Theatre on May 13th and 14th at 21:15.
The play addresses the condition and status of women in modern societies, touching upon issues of social, political, and domestic oppression and despair. It was first staged in the autumn of 1977 by Franca Rame, with music by Di Capri and directed by Dario Fo. Unfortunately, due to its long duration at the time, the creators were unable to perform all the monologues that had been written.
Today, at the dawn of 2023, we continue to live through the exact same female condition that Rame describes in her work. A woman oppressed, enslaved, still trying to establish her position and role while fighting the social clichés that society, patriarchy, men—and women themselves—have imposed upon them. And yes, women then and now “laugh”, cry, are enslaved, ignored, murdered… Today, as societies have become even more terrifying and repulsive, three women find the strength to resist and become ONE. Their words launch iron nails directly into the minds of the world.
For the third consecutive year, the MEDEA Theatre Group raises a fist and, through theatrical speech, unites the voices of women around the world into one, dedicating the play to WOMAN—as mother, sister, grandmother, professional, student…
Out of Franca Rame’s complete work, which comprises 9 monologues, 3 monologues are presented synthetically: “A WOMAN ALONE”, “MONOLOGUE OF A WHORE IN AN ASYLUM”, and “I, ULRICKE MEINHOF, ACCUSE”.
